The first thing we all check before the weekend arrives is what the weather will be like. That is why, every Friday, Pasión por el Mar, in collaboration with Àngel Muñoz, creator of Meteo de les Illes, brings you the latest weather forecast, so you can plan ahead and enjoy the sea with all the information you need.
STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERThe Balearic Islands are facing a weekend marked by greater maritime instability and a gradual change in atmospheric conditions. After several days of intense heat and airborne dust, the arrival of cooler winds will bring temperatures down and help clear the atmosphere, although it will also cause rough sea conditions in different parts of the archipelago.
Saturday will be mainly influenced by south-westerly winds, which will affect the coasts and sea areas most exposed to this direction with greater intensity. In these sectors, waves could exceed 1.5 metres in height, so extra caution is advised before heading out to sea, along with checking the latest marine forecast.
The wind will shift on Sunday. North-westerly winds are expected in Ibiza and Formentera, also affecting north-western Mallorca and Menorca. In these areas, particularly along exposed coastlines, waves could once again exceed 1.5 metres.
The wind will also help disperse the African air mass that has affected the islands for much of the week.
On land, the change in air mass will bring the most intense period of heat to an end. AEMET is already forecasting a drop in temperatures over the weekend, which will be particularly noticeable on Sunday, when maximum temperatures in Palma could be around 32°C and the chance of rainfall will increase.
The instability could also lead to the development of convective clouds and occasional showers accompanied by thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon, mainly in Mallorca. Although widespread rainfall is not expected, this possibility should be taken into account when planning boating activities or days at the beach.
