The regatta concluded yesterday, Sunday, May 17, in the waters of the Bay of Palma after two days of competition organized by Club de Mar-Mallorca on behalf of the Federación Balear de Vela.
In the Snipe class, the podium was completed by Francesc Terrasa and Fernando Velarde, representing Club Náutico Ibiza and Real Club Náutico de Palma aboard “Tucho’s”, who finished in second place. Third place went to Enric Noguera and Cristian Vidal, representing Club Marítimo de Mahón aboard “PL Sails”. In addition, the Federación Balear de Vela awarded a medal to the mixed crew of Catherine Havenga and Pablo Velarde, from Real Club Náutico de Palma aboard “Mosquito”.
In the OK Dinghy class, José Luis Sastre, representing Club Marítimo de Mahón aboard “Sasga”, claimed second place, followed by Jorge Forteza, from Real Club Náutico de Palma aboard “Mister”, who completed the podium in third.
The regatta brought together a total of 30 sailors, including 18 competitors in the OK Dinghy class and 12 sailors across six Snipe boats, representing various clubs from across the Balearic Islands.
On Saturday, the three scheduled races were completed in difficult conditions marked by frequent wind shifts and drops in pressure, forcing the Race Committee to reposition the racecourse on three occasions. On Sunday, with a steadier southerly breeze reaching up to 12 knots, a further three races were completed, bringing the championship to its full schedule of six races.
“This is the first regatta hosted by the club following the renovation of its facilities. It is especially satisfying that two historic and prestigious classes have been chosen to inaugurate this new sporting chapter,” said Manuel Nadal de Uhler, commodore of Club de Mar-Mallorca.
With this event, Club de Mar-Mallorca continues to strengthen its commitment to sailing and the organization of leading regattas in the Balearic Islands, inaugurating a new sporting era in its renovated facilities.
