‘Viking IX’, ‘Tres Mares’ and ‘Margarita’, Champions of the 2nd Illes Can Picafort – Vitrac Trophy

The event brought together 26 boats from the regional ORC fleet this weekend in Alcúdia Bay.

‘Viking IX’, skippered by Erik Tejedor (Real Club Náutico de Palma), in Group A; ‘Tres Mares’, helmed by Juan Escandell (Club Nàutic S’Arenal), in ORC 4; and ‘Margarita’, skippered by Paco Reyes (Reial Club Nàutic Port de Pollença), in ORC 5, were crowned winners of the 2nd Illes Can Picafort – Vitrac Trophy, held this weekend in Alcúdia Bay and organized by Club Nàutic Can Picafort under the auspices of the Balearic Sailing Federation.

The second and final day featured a 10-nautical-mile coastal race sailed in steady gregal (northeasterly) winds, allowing the fleet to complete the scheduled programme and determine the final standings of the regatta, which counts towards the Spanish ORC Cruiser Championship.

In Group A, reserved for the larger yachts, Viking IX, a Dehler 38 owned and skippered by Erik Tejedor, secured overall victory thanks to a second-place finish in the coastal race. Combined with the two race wins achieved on Saturday, the result gave him the title by a single point over Yabadaba Too, owned by Martín Aizcorbe, winner of Sunday’s race. Third place overall, five points behind the winner, went to Savimiki, owned by Miguel Pons and representing Club Nàutic Ciutadella.

In ORC 4, part of Group B, Tres Mares claimed a convincing victory after posting a scoreline of first, second and third places across the three races contested. Lampo Rosso, owned by Joan Jofre (Club Nàutic Colònia de Sant Pere), finished second, four points behind the winner, while Bon Vent, owned by Jeroni Capellà (Club Nàutic Ciutadella), completed the podium ten points adrift of the leader.

The ORC 5 title went to Margarita, skippered by Paco Reyes, who brought the trophy back to Reial Club Nàutic Port de Pollença thanks to a consistent series comprising one third place and two race victories. Carmela, owned by Ugo Fonollá (Club Nàutic Portocolom), finished second, followed by Kresal, owned by Andreu Cirerol and representing Club Nàutic Can Picafort.

At the conclusion of the regatta, Club Nàutic Can Picafort Director Alberto Pons expressed his satisfaction with the fleet turnout, which comprised 26 boats, and highlighted the exceptional sailing conditions offered by Alcúdia Bay. “This place is a paradise for sailing,” he said.

The prize-giving ceremony took place at 06:00 p.m. at the facilities of Club Nàutic Can Picafort.
