Timón Redeia Award to Magic Line for its commitment to sustainability and social action

The charity initiative of Sant Joan de Déu, that in Mallorca includes a maritime route in collaboration with the nautical clubs of Andratx and Cala Gamba, has allowed funding 290 social programs.

The Magic Line of Sant Joan de Déu has been awarded with the Timón Redeia Award of Gaceta Náutica to the best practice in matters of social responsability and sustainability, a recognition that highlights the value of an initiative that, since 2014, moves thousands of people in support of social and research projects. 

Magic Line is a charity, sports and festive movilization that combines a wide campaign of awareness with a participation model based in teams that set an economic challenge (usually 1.000 euros by group) and develops actions to reach it before the great final session. This format has allowed funding 190 social programs that attend people with a vulnerable situation, from patients with weird illnesses to users with orthopedic needs, mental health problems or lacks of access to health services.

Mallorca's edition adds, in addition to the land, a maritime route, integrated from 2021 and carried out yearly thanks to the collaboration of the Club Náutico de Cala Gamba and the Club de Vela Port d’Andratx. This modality, that has been ver present by the awards jury, adds a dimension inside the nautical and charity field: every year ten teams of tean people each register, teams formed mainly by families linked to the Sant Joan de Déu Foundation and that are in risk of social exclusion or that have suffered gender violence situations.

To them, teams formed by a patients from the hospitals of the entity join, especially people with a spinal injury. The activity allows these groups to live in a contact session with the sea into a safe environment.

In addition, by promoting phyisical activity, coliving and respect for natural environment, the initiative is aligned with the Goals of Sustainable Development and with the sports philosophy with values that characterize this movilization.

Gaceta Náutica has wanted to recognize the capcity of Magic Line to unite solidarity, healthy life, social inlusion and environmental commitment into a same collective action with this award.

The 10th Timón Awards, organizaded by Gaceta Náutica, are sponsored by the Autoridad Portuaria de Baleares, Ports IB, Redeia y D-Marin, and has the collaboration of Bufete Frau, Sa Calma Boats, Portcall, Cruceros Margarita, Alcudiamar, Club de Vela Port d’Andratx, Puerto Portals, Port Adriano, Astilleros de Mallorca, León Von Ondarza Abogados, Asociación de Clubes Náuticos de Baleares, ANADE, Real Club Náutico de Palma, Bodegas José Luis Ferrer and Exclusive Rent 4 Events. This year's gala will be celebrated on November 21st at Palma's Port Center (institutional headquarters of the Autoridad Portuaria de Baleares) at 7:30 p.m.
