YOU HAVE ALL OF OUR FULL PROGRAMS HERE!Spain will be represented by two crews in the 49er and 49er FX Juvenile World Champs, which will be celebrated from today, Wednesday, July 30th, to August 3rd, in Copenhaguen. The Danish capital takes the lead of Vilagarcía de Arousa, which was the base of the event in 2024, and hosts now the best international promises of olympic sailing.
In 49er FX class, members of the 2032 team Stella Enríquez (RCN Vigo) and Mallorcan María del Mar Gil, from Club Vela Port d’Andratx, will compete, while, in 49er, the Spanish crew is formed by Ian Walker and Zsombor Denes, from Club Nàutic s’Arenal.
For Waker and Denes, both from Club Nàutic s’Arenal, this is a direct contact with the class and this is their first great Championship together. On their behalf, Enríquez and Gil have completed an intense preparation and arrive to the date with ambition to sign a good performance and end in the ‘Top 10’.
Marcos Fernández, coach of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation transferred to Copenhague, points out that the juvenile crew of 49er FX is “the objective regatta of the year and they have their gaze set on finishing between the 10 best ones. The sensations are of being able to fight up there. These days they’ve done a good job in the training, so we will have to see how the competition goes”.
“It will be a championship with very diverse conditions; tomorrow they expect a lot of wind, and we will have to see how they adjust. The juvenile World champs are always a bit different because people start sailing with more ease and managing other stuff…”, Fernández adds.
The races will be contested in waters of the Strait of Øresund, 15 miles to the North of Copenhagen, in a colorful marina of Rungsted. This regattas’ area is technical and challenging due to its changing winds and the influence of the streams, which will test the skill and cooperation of the teams for five days of regattas. They are programming three daily races from 11:00 a.m.
The Royal Spanish Sailing Federation supports the participation of these two young crews inside their program of technification and talent development, with the gaze set on the olympic future.
The Royal Spanish Sailing Federation is aided by the Superior Sports Board, the Spanish Olympic Committee and Universo Mujer, and sponsored by Iberdrola, Quirón Prevención and Lotteries and Biddings of the State.
