The ‘Yellow Rose’ wins the Menorca–Sant Joan Regatta Alfonso XIII Trophy

The ‘Yellow Rose’ prevails in the offshore regatta on corrected time, while the ‘Kajsa III’ takes victory in the Port of Mahón Regatta. The ‘Enigma’ is the winner on elapsed time.

The 27th Menorca Sant Joan Regatta now knows its winners. The ‘Yellow Rose’, owned by Marten Jan Ringers, and the ‘Kajsa III’, owned by Rolf Auf Der Maur, were the main protagonists of the weekend. The former won the Alfonso XIII Trophy, after time correction, over the more than 135 nautical miles separating Barcelona and the port of Mahón, while the latter was the fastest, also after correction, in the impressive Port of Mahón Regatta held on Saturday. In addition, another standout name of the weekend was the ‘Enigma’, owned by Lluís Tort, which was the fastest boat to reach Menorca with a time of 18:33:29.

The competition began on Thursday, June 18th with the start from the Barcelona Olympic Port of the Menorca Sant Joan Regatta, with more than 40 boats setting sail toward Menorca on a windy day. From the very beginning, the ‘Enigma’ took a clear leading position, taking advantage of its larger length. Lluís Tort, from the Royal Barcelona Yacht Club boat, won the RAECY Trophy for Best Yacht Captain as the winner on elapsed time. The event is sponsored by the Menorca Island Council and supported by the Mahón City Council and the Port Authority, and is jointly organized by the Mahón Yacht Club and the Royal Barcelona Yacht Club.

After time correction, the winner of the regatta was the ‘Yellow Rose’ from YC Scheveningen, which took the Alfonso XIII Trophy. The ‘Kajsa III’ took second place with a margin of 18:43, and the bronze went to ‘L’Oreig’, owned by Martí Gelabert from CN Port d’Aro, +18:50.

On Saturday, in the Port of Mahón Regatta, the ‘Kajsa III’ won, ahead of ‘L’Oreig’, while the ‘Yellow Rose’ had to settle for third place, completing a fantastic weekend.

The regatta concluded in the evening with the prize-giving ceremony, attended by the mayor of Mahón, Héctor Pons; the regional government councillor Juan Manuel Lafuente; the vice president of the Menorca Island Council, Simón Gornés; the commander of the Mahón Naval Base, Federico Dueñas; and Antonio Ponsetí, delegate of the Balearic Sailing Federation, as well as the president of the Mahón Yacht Club, Basilio Ferrer, and the board member and representative of the Royal Barcelona Yacht Club, Pere Pericot.
