Biodibal's catalogue, a project to boost conservation of insular biodiversity, has added in 2024's catalogue a total of 71 new species of sea alugs, a group of marine molluscs that includes nudibranches, also known as sea slugs, and other similar species.

YOU HAVE ALL OF OUR FULL PROGRAMS HERE!According to the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), this catalogue is the fourth volume of the Biodival Monographies collection, focused newly on sea slugs. The publicaction has ben made inside the project's mark, which has the support of Redeia.
The initiative combines science, conservation and civilian participation and has allowed collecting 1.116 observations of 122 different species, 71 of which do not figure in the last editin.
In addition, the catalogue has had the collaboration of the Scuba Mallorca diving center and of a local divers network, passionate for the molluscs group.
The UIB has explained that sea slugs are organisms especially sensitive to environmental changes, which turns them into excellent indicators of the health state of marine ecosystems.
The study has collected date of 52 localities of 16 municipalities of Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza, including protected marine areas such as sa Dragonera, the Cap de Formentor or the Isla del Toro.
The catalogue has a relation of documented observation of each species, as well as the catalogue as a detailed report of every one of them.
According to the main researcher of the project and one of the editors of the catalogue, Samuel Pinya, the initiative "does not only contribut eto scientific knwoledge, but also boosts civilian implication in marine conservation".
In that sense, he has pointed out that the participation of submarine photographers and volunteers has been key to expand the catalogue of species and improving territorial coverage.
The edition of this year honours the naturalist, diver and collaborator of the catalogue,Joan Pereyra Tur, that passed away this year. Its contribution to knowledge of sea slugs in Ibiza was the only and non-precedents in the Balearics, have stood out.
Currently they're already working on the 2025 edition of the catalogue, which has the participation of sivers and diving clubs.
