The 'Solgreen' rises with victory at the fifth edition of Iberdrola’s League

The team of RCN Valencia and Club Nàutic s'Arenal has been crowned victor of the final in Calpe.

The fifth edition of Iberdrola’s League closed yesterday, Sunday October 12th, in waters of the bay of Calpe with a marathon journey that has crowned the girls of the ‘Solgreen’, with  sailors from Real Club Náutico Valencia and Club Nàutic s'Arenal, as new champions of Spain of female sailing. The crew led by Elena de Tomás has imposed in the final of this national circuit , which has been coorganized by the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Real Club Náutico Calpe, despite that Sume and Unise have been the best in the qualifying round.

The 14 teams and 70 women of the final of Iberdrola’s League –the numbers mark participation record– have been called at the Real Club Náutico Calpe at the first hour of the morning, to start the tests at 10 a.m. Afternoon’s intermittent rain has given step to clear skies throughout the day, with winds increasing with intensity, which has allowed carrying out all the races of the qualifying round and three Medal Races, of double punctuation and non-disposable ones.

Ten qualifying races have been celebrated with medium but demanding winds for Tom 28 monotypes of RCN Calpe, with what the ability of the crews in these conditions has entered into play.The Surne, from Bilbao, of RCMA-RSC, has been the most solid team and with a second and three  partial triumphs has accessed the Medal Races in honor position, followed by the Unisa of RCN Calpe and for Solgreen of RCN Valencia and CN Arenal. The Team RCNGC of RCN Gran Canaria, the Sailing Point of CN Altea and Ganbatte of RCN Calpe have achieved the pass to these finals too.

In the Medal Races, Solgreen dipped into it and with two seconds and a fourth has achieved rising up with victory in the final at Calpe. With this triumph the combined team of RCN Valencia and CN Arenal, formed by Elena de Tomás, Martina Lodos, Obdulia Fernández, Sarai de Tomás and Andrea Perelló, signs also the title of female sailing Spain’s champions, as winners of 2025’s Ibredrola’s League, taking up the respite of CN Arenal, that won last year.

Elena de Tomás has explained the victory key: “It has been a very harsh championship because all the crews have been fighting for the podium, but we have known how to correct  the mistakes that we’ve had at the beginning and this way we’ve won the championship. The key to success has been moving the good friendship  that we have in the team to good communication aboard. We are very happy to have been crowned the 2025 Iberdrola’s League Spain’s champions”.

In Calpe’s final, the Unisa of Sara Momplet joined the second place at the podium, one of both local teams, which was three points behind the winners. Team RCNGC of RCN Gran Canaria, led by Inés Martín-Urda, has completed the podium.

In the circuit’s qualifying, after the ‘Solgreen’ the Team RCNGC has won the runner-up title of Spain, while the bronze has been for the Surne of RCMA-RSC, with Joana Abasolo going for it.

Iberdrola’s League is the national circuit of female sailing organized by the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, in collaboration with nautical hosts clubs, with the goal of boosting the participation of more women in this sport and of offering a platform for its development as sailors. Five phases have composed the fifth edition: Getxo (March), Altea (April), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (May), Palma (September), and Calpe’s final this weekend.

The president of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, Joaquín González Devesa, who has assisted this closure journey, has pointed out that “the record of participation of the final of Iberdrola’s League in Calpe, with 15 inscribed teams and 14 participating teams for a last moment drop in the last moment, confirm that the circuit grows in interest, which means that we are attracting more women to sailing. In addition, it offers an improvement and development platform for sailors, and gives them an experience to then integrate in cruisers crews if they wish it”.

Iberdrola’s League event in Calpe has been organized by Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and Real Club Náutico Calpe, with the sponsorship of Iberdrola and Universo Mujer del Consejo Superior de Deportes.
