The “Sailing School for Young People in Care” project arrives to Mallorca and Ibiza

Driven by the Ocean of Dreams Foundation, the program combines academic training, nautical experience, and personal development on board.

Marina Port de Mallorca and Marina Ibiza welcomed the training vessel FLOT to their facilities, a 12-meter boat that is part of the “Sailing School for Young People in Care” project, an initiative led by the Ocean of Dreams Foundation (Fundacja Ocean Marzeń) and aimed at young people from care backgrounds in Poland.

The vessel, with a crew made up of five young people aged 13 to 17, together with a captain and an officer, stopped at both marinas as part of an educational journey through European waters and several stopovers in Spanish cities.

By facilitating their stay, both Marina Port de Mallorca and Marina Ibiza contributed to the development of a project that uses sailing as a tool for education and personal transformation.

On board the FLOT, participants combine their academic studies with real-life practice at sea. Through their own educational program, the young people apply knowledge of mathematics, physics, geography, biology, and English in a practical setting, integrating learning into every stage of the voyage.

The project also includes intensive nautical training, with more than 300 hours of experience at sea, covering disciplines such as navigation, meteorology, route planning, and crew management. This experience not only allows them to work toward professional certifications, but also helps them develop key skills such as responsibility, resilience, teamwork, and independence.

Life on board, in a demanding environment far removed from everyday comforts, reinforces fundamental values that will stay with these young people into adulthood, turning this experience into a unique opportunity for personal growth.

With initiatives like this, Marina Port de Mallorca and Marina Ibiza strengthen their commitment to the community by supporting projects that generate a positive impact and help bring the sea closer to those who find in it an opportunity to build their future.
