The Balearic Minister for the Sea and Water Cycle, Juan Manuel Lafuente, accompanied by the Director General of Ports and Maritime Transport, Antoni Mercant, and the Managing Director of Ports de les Illes Balears (PortsIB), Kico Villalonga, visited the Cala Lledó jetty in Sa Dragonera yesterday, Thursday 1st October, to review the progress of the rehabilitation and repair works currently being carried out on the infrastructure.

The works, promoted by PortsIB, have an investment of €1,096,506.67, including VAT, and aim to improve and rehabilitate the jetty and create a new accessible route to facilitate access to the infrastructure.

The execution of the works is subject to the environmental characteristics of the surrounding area. For this reason, the project has included two work stoppages, between March and October 2025 and between March and October 2026. The works are expected to resume next month, with the project scheduled for completion by the end of the year.

The Minister for the Sea and Water Cycle, Juan Manuel Lafuente, highlighted “the work being carried out by PortsIB to ensure the proper condition and conservation of port infrastructure in the Balearic Islands”, adding that “in the case of Cala Lledó, this project represents a significant improvement to infrastructure located in an area of particular environmental value, and it is being carried out with the environmental conditions of Sa Dragonera taken into account at all times.”

The project includes replacing the existing steps with a new access ramp and widening the quay to provide two metres of clear width, using a concrete slab and an adjoining wooden walkway. It also includes the construction of a staircase connecting the platform to the top of the ramp and the rehabilitation of the quay foundations, which have suffered deterioration and scouring in certain areas.

The project also includes reinforcing the protective rock revetment, installing a new crane for use by the park at the end of the quay and an electric generator, rehabilitating the existing boat sheds and their launching ramps, as well as upgrading the surrounding area by replacing railings, resurfacing the upper area and refurbishing the vertical surfaces.

With the resumption of the works already scheduled, the final actions required to complete the project will now be carried out. These include completing the reinforcement of the rock revetment, transporting and installing the new crane and generator by helicopter, as well as supplying and installing the prefabricated concrete slabs following preparation of the surface. Wood will also be installed on the boat-shed ramps, while the wooden staircase and metal railing will be completed.

The Balearic Government continues to work on improving and maintaining the islands’ port infrastructure, with the aim of ensuring better safety, accessibility and usability while taking into account the environmental characteristics of the surrounding area.
