This Monday, September 1st, a highly anticipated day for recreational fishermen in Ibiza and Formentera, the fishing season for raor (Xyrichtys novacula) has officially opened. This fish, known for its delicate flesh, is highly prized when fried and traditionally cooked with its scales to add a crispy touch.

YOU HAVE ALL OF OUR FULL PROGRAMS HERE!From early in the morning, fishermen who traveled to the area of La Mola in Formentera recorded on video the first three catches of the season. Unlike previous years, they noted that the sea was somewhat rough, which reduced the early presence of boats. However, they remain confident that as the day progresses, more vessels will join the search for raor.
The closed season for raor was lifted on September 1st and will remain open until March 31st of the following year. Each recreational fishing license allows for the capture of up to 50 specimens per person per day, within a limit of 5 kg per person and a maximum of 300 per vessel.
In addition, the declaration of catches is mandatory, particularly when fishing within marine reserves, and must be completed either electronically or in writing.
The opening day of September 1st symbolizes the balance between tradition and sustainability: a long-awaited event for enthusiasts that also aligns with the efforts of the Balearic Government to preserve the species.
