The Menorca Sant Joan - Alfonso XIII Trophy warms up its engines with over 50 contestants registered

The spectacular competition, of 140 nautical miles, will take place in the ports of Barcelona and Mahón on June 19th and 20th.

The challenge that proposes the Menorca Sant Joan - Alfonso XIII Trophy of covering on wind the 170 miles that separate the ports of Barcelona and Mahón, has captivated over 50 participants. The event, which will take place on June 19th and 20th, has 54 ships registered to take part in one of the most important long distance sailing challenges of the country

The XXVI Menorca Sant Joan Regatta - Alfonso XIII Trophy will be complemented, one more year, with the spectacular regatta inside the port of Mahón on Saturday, June 21st, which will kick off in the morning in front of the old Maritime Station and it will offer the possibility to be checked from the same dock or from different viewpoints that the city has and that show part of the insides of the port. 

The race, which counts toward the Spanish Offshore Championship and the Catalonia Offshore Championship for Solo and Double-Handed categories, will feature eight boats from the island, six from the Club Marítimo de Mahón and two from the Club Nàutic de Ciutadella. The rest belong to clubs in Catalonia, with ten sailing under foreign flags.

The Menorca – Sant Joan race includes the Alfonso XIII Trophy, one of the oldest in the national calendar. It was established in 1912 by King Alfonso XIII, grandfather of King Juan Carlos I and great-grandfather of the current King Felipe VI. Since 1996, the event has been jointly organized by the Club Marítimo de Mahón and the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona. The trophy awarded to the winners is a replica bearing the mark of the prestigious Puig jewelry house in Barcelona.
