The Maritime Museum of Mallorca will offer guided group tours starting in 2026

8th December 2025 by Agencies

On the 3rd of October, the new image of the Maritime Museum of Mallorca was officially inaugurated at its Ses Voltes Cultural Centre location in Palma. The space, part of a project promoted by the Consell de Mallorca with the support of the Government of the Balearic Islands, strengthens its commitment to bringing maritime heritage closer to the public. Admission to the museum is free, and it is open from Tuesday to Sunday between 10:00 a.m. and 05:00 p.m.

Starting in January, the museum will begin offering guided group tours with the aim of deepening visitors’ understanding of the exhibition content and generating dialogue around the maritime themes it explores. Those interested can request a reservation by writing to the museum’s usual email address (info@museumaritim.net) or calling +34 871 003 434.

The Maritime Museum of Mallorca has two locations: the Museu de la Mar in Port de Sóller and the Ses Voltes space in Palma. In this latter venue, visitors can discover the historical, cultural and social relationship between Mallorca and the Mediterranean through two exhibition routes.

Route 1, located in the right wing, includes the “Immersió” room, where the museum’s core themes are presented: the protection of maritime heritage, traditional trades, seafaring gastronomy, plastic reduction, and the role of women in the maritime world. The “De mar enllà” room proposes a journey through the history of navigation using underwater archaeological materials. Further along, “Arribant a bon port” illustrates the golden age of international trade between the 18th and 20th centuries and the evolution of the Mallorcan merchant fleet. The route continues with “Pesca i biodiversitat,” dedicated to the importance of marine reserves and social responsibility in preserving biodiversity, as well as traditional and contemporary fishing techniques. The visit concludes in the educational space, designed for work with schools and groups.

Route 2, located in the left wing, begins with the “Sala de barques,” where a traditional pontoon is displayed along with tools used by mestres d’aixa (traditional boatbuilders) and a collection of traditional Mallorcan boats rescued from oblivion. The visit ends in the temporary exhibition hall, currently hosting Thálassa by artist Irene Gayà, a show dedicated to marine species connected to the fishing and seafood calendar of the Balearic Sea.

With this renovation and the introduction of guided tours, the Maritime Museum of Mallorca reinforces its role as a space for outreach and reflection on the island’s maritime culture.
