The installation of the marine water recirculation system in Sant Josep is on hold

25th June 2025 by Agencies

The Balearic Government has claimed, on various occasions, since February, a necessary linking record of the State, but still hasn’t received an answer.

Sea and Water Cycle Board, through Coasts General Direction, can’t authorize the installation of a marine water system expected in the beaches of Cala Vedella, Cala Tarida and Port des Torrent, in Sant Josep de sa Talaia, because the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge still hasn’t sent the preceptive and linking necessary record for processing that authorization.

This is an essential requirement established by current regulations for this type of action on the coast.

The Balearic Government first requested this report in February 2025 and has since formally reiterated the request on several occasions, most recently just a few days ago.

Despite regular contact with the national administration, a response is still pending, which prevents the procedure from moving forward and the necessary authorization from being formalized for the Sant Josep Town Council to activate the recirculation pumps.

The Ministry recalls that these systems have already been used in previous seasons as a mechanism to reduce the visual and environmental impact of microalgae in areas with limited natural water renewal, and that the process has proceeded normally in other municipalities, such as Santa Eulària or Sant Joan, once the corresponding national reports were obtained.

The Ministry of the Sea and the Water Cycle reiterates its commitment to the protection of the coastline and the environmental improvement of bathing areas and expresses confidence that the situation can be resolved as soon as possible to meet the needs of the Sant Josep coast during the peak tourist season.
