Among the participating boats are two true icons of classic sailing that are celebrating major anniversaries this year. As the club’s commodore, Manuel Nadal de Uhler, explains: “On the one hand, Panerai is commemorating the 90th anniversary of Eilean, the renowned Bermudian ketch designed by William Fife III and built in 1936 by the prestigious Scottish shipyard Fife of Fairlie. Bon Temps will also take centre stage as it celebrates the centenary of its launch, making it one of the most emblematic boats of this edition.”
In addition to the sporting programme, the organisers have prepared an extensive calendar of social and cultural activities, almost all of which will take place at the club’s new facilities, turning Club de Mar-Mallorca into a meeting point for sailors, enthusiasts and visitors.
The programme includes exhibitions, conferences, the presentation of Luis Tourón Figueroa’s book Los barcos de D. Juan de Borbón, un marino singular, meetings with leading figures from the sailing world, activities for the crews and a range of social events accompanying the days of competition.
Once again, the Illes Balears Clàssics will count towards the Trofeo Clásicos Mare Nostrum – Spanish Classic Sailing Cup and the CIM Circuit, the International Mediterranean Championship, bringing together some of the finest examples of nautical heritage in the Bay of Palma.
The regatta is organised by Club de Mar-Mallorca under delegation from the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, with the collaboration of the Balearic Sailing Federation, the Royal National Cruising Association and the Spanish Association of Vintage and Classic Boats.
With more than three decades of history, the Illes Balears Clàssics continues to strengthen Palma’s position as one of the leading international centres of classic sailing, combining top-level competition, maritime heritage and a comprehensive programme of activities that turns the regatta into a true celebration of traditional sailing.
