The last day began calmer in ría de Arousa. Just as the forecast showed, the northern win lost intensity regarding the previous sessions, even though it stayed enough to allow two decisive races to take place for the golden team, with which the podiums of the five participating categories were decided. With 8-9 intensity knot winds and after two cancelled outings by general call –provoked by the out-of-line of a great part of the fleet–, the Committee carried out the first outing at 11 a.m.
It was, with no doubt, an exciting, very competitive session, with a definitive focus on the male overall as well as the female one.The Galician representative of the CND Riveira, that departed from the second provisional position and began the day as a discreet 64th –result that he could discard–, he knew how to take advantage of his options to the maximum and he achieved a fifth place in the last race, which was enough to be crowned as the flamboyant winner of Spain’s Cup. Iglesias finished with three advantage points over the second, Nikko Palou, from Real Club Náutico de Palma, and four over Juan Bennassar, of the same club, third. The three also filled the male U19 podium.
The absolute female overall, great session for Lara Sabina Himmes (RCR Alicante), who departed from the second position and achieved the final victory with eight advantage points over Sheila Martínez (CN Campello) —the best one of the day with a first and a third— and 15 over Canary Isabel Hernández (RCN Gran Canaria), that closed the podium in third position.
In U21 female, the final victory was for Balearic Marga Perelló, from Real Club Náutico de Palma, followed by Adriana Castro (RCN Torrevieja) and Ainhoa Gómez (Federación de Vela de la Región de Murcia), second and third respectively. Gómez rose also with the female U19 title, podium that completed Gabriella Morell, from Real Club Náutico de Palma, and Raquel Retamero (RCN La Línea).
Once the competition had ended, the awards ceremony put the final touch to one of the most important dates of the calendar of the RFGV in this 2025. The act, presided by Pedro Piñeiro, federative vicepresident, had the presence of Alberto Varela, mayor of Vilagarcía de Arousa; Carlos Coira, Sports councillor; Blanca García-Señoráns, territorial director of Presidence Counselling, Xustiza e Deportes de Pontevedra; and Marcos Guisasola, Environment and sea deputee of Diputación de Pontevedra.
ILCA 6 Spain’s Cup has been organized by the Royal Galician Sailing Federation, by delegation of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, and had the sponsorship of the Xunta de Galicia, through the Secretaría Xeral para o Deporte, and the Diputación de Pontevedra, with the support of Concello de Vilagarcía de Arousa, Vilagarcía’s Portuary Authority and the Maritime Captaincy.
