The regional government and representatives of the Balearic Sailing Federation, the Canoeing Federation and the Underwater Activities Federation have agreed on a transitional solution that will see their athletes integrated into their own dedicated space, with optimal conditions for both elite and grassroots sport, until December 2027.
This agreement also entails, in parallel and by mutual agreement between the parties, the formal termination of the collaboration agreement signed in May 2023 by the previous government with the Balearic Port Authority (APB) regarding the facilities at El Molinar, Caló d’en Rigo. The joint resolution proposal has already been sent to the APB for ratification by its Board of Directors.
Current technical analyses had certified that the El Molinar project, processed just before the 2023 elections with a budget of €700,000, was not operationally viable.
The Regional Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, Jaume Bauzà, defended the need to put an end to this project, which “did not provide real solutions”. “Faced with the unfulfilled promises of the past, which put current budgetary viability at risk, this Government is acting with honesty and with the truth up front,” Bauzà concluded.
While the athletes carry out their activity with guaranteed conditions in this new port area, the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport will continue working closely with the federations and the nearby yacht clubs to move forward with the design and processing of a definitive location proposal. This solution must respond, in a structural way and with full technical guarantees, to the needs of these athletes in the Balearic Islands.
