The Government boosts modernization of the port of Porto Cristo

PortsIB assigns 1.1 million of euros to the integral reform of one of the main areas of the port.

The general director of Ports and Maritime Transport, Toni Mercant, and the manager of Porto Cristo of Manacor's Town Hall, Antònia Llodrà, visited yesterday, Monday December 1st, the evolution of the rehabilitation works of dock and of the promenade of Cap des Toll in the port of Porto Cristo. The works, which behan in October 6th, form part of an integral modernization work that is transforming one of the most crowded spaces of the port.

The work, assigned to the company AMER E HIJOS, SA for € 1.106.824,89 (VAT included) and with an eight months period, repairs the existing dock and rebuilds the most damaged area, alongside the bridge of es Riuet. It also upgrades the services network of the port (electricity, water, sanitation, lighting and telecommunications) and service towers.

Regarding rainwater, a new drainage network that canalizes rainwater towards decanters-separators before being dischardged to the channel. In addition, the aerial telecommunication lines are concealed to organize the space and guarantee a major safety better.

The streets are adapted to facilitate the pedestrian crossings, while the promenade's paving and the one of the driveway are reformed to erase slopes and unify space. Finally, the signalization is updated and the installation of the new urban furniture is expected.

During the visit, Toni Mercant highlighted the importance of the project: “These works are a decisive step toward improving and enhancing a highly used area, and toward ensuring a safer, more accessible port that is adapted to current needs.”. “This is an area that has long been in need of a thorough intervention. With this project, we are modernizing the waterfront and improving the experience for port users and visitors.”.

With this project, the Government reaffirms its commitment to improving and maintaining the port infrastructure of the Balearic Islands.
