The opening day of the Puerto Portals 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week ended with two good races in the Bay of Palma. The "Platoon Aviation" helmed by German Harm Müller-Spreer, world and circuit champion in 2023, turned in the best scorecard of the fleet and returned to Puerto Portals as the first leader of the week.

At the start of the Puerto Portals 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week, the conditions featured a thermal breeze around ten knots that allowed the completion of the two scheduled races, offering the first competitive glimpses of the historic fleet of 13 boats from nine nationalities vying for this fourth event of the 2024 season.
"Quantum Racing powered by American Magic" was the first to jump into action, executing the best start in the opening race, while a painful over-the-line start relegated "Alegre" to the back of the pack. The American boat lost its chances by pushing the right edge of the field and left the door open for a group led by "Platoon Aviation", which took the lead at the crucial first buoy mark, followed by a "Crioula" that surprised everyone with a stellar performance in its debut. The rest of the race was dominated by the 2023 world and circuit champions, who clinched a resounding victory ahead of the Brazilians and the circuit leader and current world champion, Tony Langley's "Gladiator".
"Gladiator" was the star of the second race of the day. The team led by Argentine helmsman Guillermo Parada correctly bet on the left end of the line at the start and quickly took the lead. "Platoon Aviation" pressured their arch-rival throughout the course and even surpassed them at times, but "Gladiator" proved very strong in these conditions and managed to pull ahead in the final stretch to secure the victory. "Platoon Aviation" was second, just five seconds behind "Interlodge".
With the day's two races added up, "Platoon Aviation" is the initial leader of the Puerto Portals 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week, just ahead of "Gladiator" and seven points clear of "Quantum Racing powered by American Magic".
