To map the area, the vessel will use the EM-2040C multibeam echosounder, collect sediment samples, carry out seismic profiles and analyse systematic sound velocity profile data collected in the water.
Marine mapping plays a key role in the development of the fishing, shellfish and marine aquaculture sectors. According to the Ministry, it is also essential for managing and protecting the seabed, improving public knowledge of the marine environment, raising awareness and supporting conservation efforts.
It should be noted that the fishing and oceanographic research vessels managed by the General Secretariat for Fisheries represent a strong commitment by the Spanish Government to the sustainable management of fishing resources.
The oceanographic vessels Emma Bardán, B/O Miguel Oliver and B/O Vizconde de Eza carry out more than 500 days of research campaigns every year, both nationally and internationally. Equipped with scientific teams and advanced technology, they contribute to expanding knowledge of the oceans in order to promote sustainable fisheries management.
