STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERThe boat ‘Tuiga’, a precious 28 length vessels and with over a century of life, will be one of the appeals of the Cormorán Trophy, one of the most important sporting dates of the year for the Reial Club Nàutic Port de Pollença (RCNPP) that is ready to host from tomorrow, August 22nd, over 40 participants.
Classic sailing boats, cruisers and Flying Fifteen will gather one days 22nd and 23rd of August in the club of the north of the island to take part in the competition. In addition to the ‘Tuiga (1909), one of the four survivors of the FI15 fleet that dominated sailing in the second decade of the 20th century and that will participate for the first time in the Cormorán Trophy, another centenary boat like the ‘Gipsy’ (1927), representative of Spain’s Classic Sailing Foundation and built by the same shipyard of ‘Juan Sebastián Elcano’, will return to the bay of Pollença this year
The inscription of classics in this Cormorán Trophy is completed with other boats such as the ‘Argyll’ (1948), the ‘Clarionet’ (1966), the ‘Rubicon’ (1948) and the ‘Rossina di Mare’ (1961) and ‘Celeste di Mare’ (1970), of Amador Magraner, and the ‘Jintonique’, of Marga Villalonga, which will be the local representatives in this competition.
Joan Pizà, responsible for cruisers of the RCN Port de Pollença, explains that just five years ago they started inviting classic boats to participate in the Cormorán Trophy and in just one period they’ve achieved more emblematic ships to join the competition.
The initiative has turned into an authentic call success since the classic sailing boats are sailing between Palma’s Illes Balears Clàssics Regatta and Mahón’s Copa del Rey de Barcos de Época. This way, the RCN Port de Pollença has turned into a strategic spot between the two events.
Over twenty ORC cruising boats sum up to the classic boats, some of them having arrived from Barcelona and Menorca, and the Flying Fifteen class monotypes, that have their reference base in the Reial Club Nàutic Port de Pollença (RCNPP).
The organization of the Cormorán Trophy has programmed windward/leeward tests for tomorrow, first day of competition, for cruisers and Flying Fifteen while the classics carry out a coastal journey. However, on Saturday all the ships will complete a coastal round trip that will decide the name of the winners of this Cormorán Trophy’s edition.
