The Council of Mallorca has presented the 1st Water Bike Circuit, a new proposal for pedal-powered races on water using this innovative type of transport. The event is open to everyone and has been planned by the institution as a three-stage series for 2026. The first circuit was officially announced today, Wednesday, May 27th, and will take place next Sunday, June 14th, at Parc de la Mar in Palma.

The 1st Mallorca Water Bike Circuit will consist of a series of races designed to promote participation in this new sporting discipline, which combines cycling and canoeing, among the entire population of Mallorca. The competition will be open to participants of all ages from 12 years old or 1.50 m in height and will feature five categories: master, adult, cadet, children’s, and promotion. Participants will complete a defined course in the shortest possible time.

The presentation event, held today at Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita, was attended by the second vice-president and councillor for Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports of the Council of Mallorca, Pedro Bestard; the institution’s Island Director of Sports, Toni Prats; the president of the Balearic Islands Cycling Federation, Toni Bauçà; and the technical director and manager of the Balearic Canoeing Federation, Xavi Marroig, both federations collaborating on the initiative.

To showcase the event, the organizers took advantage of a water bike workshop from the “Súma’t” programme held at Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita with a school group of around one hundred students. The students also enjoyed demonstrations from two guest athletes: canoeist Joan Toni Moreno, from the Reial Club Nàutic del Port de Pollença, and cyclist Lluís Mas.

Councillor Bestard highlighted that “this is a new initiative by the Council of Mallorca that combines cycling and aquatic skills, open to participation by the whole family, as it welcomes all ages and ability levels.” He also added that “we are already offering this new activity to senior citizen groups and young people, as we can see today in this workshop here in Sa Ràpita, as a recreational sports session that allows participants to exercise, improve cardio fitness and muscle tone, while also relaxing and enjoying the scenery.”

The Council of Mallorca has recently signed a collaboration agreement and use of facilities arrangement to develop sporting activities, expanding the institution’s aquatic areas, which until now had been based at the Port of Alcúdia and the Port of Andratx.
