In spite of the difficult meteorological conditions, the championship has been completed with success thanks to the good organization and the intense final session of sunday, in which the east wind allowed developing great part of the expected sports program. In total, 13 session took place, crowning new Champions of the Balearic Islands in different categories.
The championship kicked off on Friday January 30th with east wind (270º) and a main intensity between 15 and 17 knots, which allowed the celebration of two sessions for each Techno 293 category. However, from 3 p.m., matching with the start of the iQFOiL races, the wind lost intensity until it had an 8 knot level, insufficient for sailing with the foils. As a consequence, only three sessions could take place in male iQFOiL U19 and a race for the rest of the categories.
The session of Saturday had to be integrally suspended due to safety reasons, due to the orange warning for bad weather decreed by the Statal Meteorology Agency (AEMET), with a forecast of strong winds and heavy rains.
On Sunday, the regattas area returned to activity with a stable east wind, with 15 knots and streaks of up to 20. These conditions allowed completing an intense final session with the celebration of three races in different Techno 293 categories and up to five tests in iQFOiL, specially decisive for the final qualifying.
After the completion of the races, the championship concluded with the trophy and medal ceremony, attended by Ricard Alabau, board member of Club Nàutic S’Arenal. The Principal Race Officer for the championship was Maria Vallespir, a member of the technical team of the Balearic Sailing Federation (FBV).
Sailors finishing in first position were awarded the Balearic Champions medal, presented by the FBV, in addition to the corresponding regatta trophy.
The Balearic Championship for iQFOiL and Techno 293 once again highlighted the high level of grassroots sailing in the Balearic Islands, as well as the key role played by yacht clubs in the training and development of young sailing talent.
