The book club ‘Tinta de mar’ begins its fourth season aboard the 'Saga' in Ibizan waters

The nautical book club “Tinta de mar” has begun its fourth season with a very special journey: a literary session aboard the emblematic schooner “Saga”, an elegant boat with rich history that set sail this Tuesday, October 28th, in the calm waters of Ibiza.

Built in wood between 1936 and 1946, the ‘Saga’ preserves its classic splendor and has been the scenery of sailor training of over 10.000 young people inside the school-ship program. This time, it turned again into a shelter for letters, dialogue and the sea for both groups that integrate ‘Tinta de mar’.

The session formed part of a gift that the Club Náutico de Ibiza offered this year to the group, in collaboration with the shipowners of the vessel, Bruaux Simon and Guillaume Dimmers, and with the marine biologist Agnès Torres, responsible of the program “Joves per la mar”. The initiative came out as a recognition to the constant labor of the coordinator of the club, the writer Javier Serapio, and of the members that have united literature and maritime awareness for four years, defending the history and the legacy of the Club Náutico de Ibiza.

The originality of ‘Tinta de mar’ — pioneer between the book clubs in dedicating exclusively to books and topics related to the sea — was enough to be selected by the program “Un país para leerlo” of La 2 of TVE, that showed images of the club in the session next to the port in their special program about Ibiza. “Beautiful gifts of the sea to our labour”, reminded Serapio while sailing.

Under an Autumn clear light, the ‘Saga’ set sail at 3 p.m., adapting its route to the wind to go south. After an hour of calm sailing, they moored in a creek close to Es Cavallet, where assistants enjoyed a sailor snack and a cocktail prepared by the crew. Shipowner Simon explained then the fascinating story of the boat, from its construction in Denmark to its arrival to Ibiza, sharing stories that turned the afternoon into a trip through memory.

Even though the Ibizan poet Mario Riera, special guest to recite verses of his book “Viatge d’aniversari”, could not assist, the encounter served to trace a route paper of the season: readings, open journeys,concerts and recitals that will keep strengthening this culture and sea space.

The Casino des Moll will keep being the base of ‘Tinta de mar’ during this new season, thanks to the cession of their facilities to the Club Náutico de Ibiza for this cultural activity that stays alive after the loss of its concession.
