The Balearic windsurfing youth programme has once again demonstrated its excellent health. A total of seven sailors from the Balearic Islands will form part of the Spanish team competing at the Techno 293 European Championship, which will be held from 18 to 25 July in Sopot, Poland, one of the most important international events on the class calendar.

The Balearic contingent will play a leading role within the national team. In the boys’ Under-15 category, Joshua León Castro of Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa will compete as Spain’s highest-ranked representative, while his club teammate Biel Martorell occupies second place within the national squad. Fellow CMSAP sailor Marta Vaquer will compete in the girls’ Under-15 category.

Meanwhile, María Martorell of CMSAP will lead the Spanish contingent in the girls’ Under-13 category, further establishing herself as one of the country’s most promising young windsurfers.

They will be joined by Juan Bartolomé Servera of Club Nàutic S’Arenal, Ana Villar of Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita and Mariona Moragues of Club Nàutic S’Arenal, who will also represent Spain in a competition bringing together some of Europe’s leading Techno 293 specialists.

The Techno 293 European Championship will gather more than 200 sailors from across the continent for a week of racing on the Baltic Sea, with the European titles in the different categories at stake. The event will begin with registration, equipment measurement and training sessions before the official races get underway to decide the new continental champions.

The presence of seven Balearic athletes at an event of this level once again highlights the excellent work carried out by the Islands’ yacht clubs and the Balearic Sailing Federation in developing young sailors, consolidating the Balearic Islands as one of Spain’s leading regions in youth sailing classes.
