The Balearic sailing group trains at the national gathering of the 2032 Team

Over 40 young Spanish sailing promises worked during the weekened at the CEAR Príncipe Felipe, placed at the Port of Santander, the house of Spanish sailing, combining physical tests, phisiotheraphy sessions, specific training by class and technical meetings with the RFEV's multidisciplinary team.

The 2032 Team of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation has carried out last weekend an intense training gathering at the CEAR Príncipe Felipe de Santander, where athletes of diverse olympic classes have participated into a complete program of physical, technical and medical preparation oriented to long-term development. 

The team, formed by over 40 sailors, has had a highlighted Balearic representation: in ILCA 7 Tim Lubat, Marc O’Connor and Sergio García, the three from Real Club Náutico de Palma, and Daniel Giménez and Karol Krupski, both from Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx, have participated. On the other hand, in ILCA 6 there were Marga Perelló, from Real Club Náutico de Palma, and María Gornés, from Club Nàutic Ciutadella. Barbara Winau in iQFOiL femenino, Ian Walker in 49er and Aina Garau in 470, all three from Club Nàutic s'Arenal, have also participated.

For three sessions, sailors have trained under the coordination of national technicians and the phyisical preparation and phisiotherapy team, combining control tests, specific sessions by boat tipology and transversal activities oriented to the improvement of performance and injury prevention. 

The gathering began on Friday, November 14th, with a session of general functioning of the CEAR and presentation of the training plan. Afterwards, the team divided in two. A part of the athletes carried out physical strenght tests with Ion Chicoy, alongside the technical board of the RFEV, and Danny Mamian, physical coach of the 2032 team; while the others developed complementary resistance tests and Motiphysio with Sofía Segura, physiotherapist of the RFEV. 

The talks were the spotlight of the afternoon. Xisco Gil, director of olympic training, focused on the 2032 Program. Ion Chicoy talked to them about quantification of training load and Sofía Segura, of injury prevention. 

Saturday, November 15th, the subgroups were interchanged to carry out the measurements and strenght, resistance and Motiphysio tests. 

At midday the athletes received a nutrition talk to carry out a Team Building activity at the climbing wall in the afternoon. 

The last journey of the gathering, on Sunday 16th, included technical meeting sby class groups, collected data analysis during the tests and a workshop on using the 'encoder' tool, which helps them register the speed of execution of the exercises; in addition to a cooking and nutrition workshop. 

The goal of the 2032 Team is developing the next generation of Spanish olympic sailing through a structured plan of tracking, training and talent detection. Santander, usual working headquarters of the olympic team, turns again into a strategic spot for this project.. 

The CEAR Príncipe Felipe, placed in the port of Santander, offered once again its facilities and technical resources for a gathering set by the demanding level, camaraderie and coordination between coaches, physical coaches and phyisiotherapists. 

The present pluridisciplinary team of the RFEV in this gathering has been formed by Xisco Gil, olympic preparation director; Sofia Segura, physiotherapist; Ion Chicoy, from the technical directorate of the RFEV; Danny Mamian, physical coach of the 2032 team; and Alejandro Martínez, collaborator nutrionist. 

The Royal Spanish Sailing Federation is subsidized by the Sports Superior Council, the Spanish Olympic Committee and Universo Mujer, and has the sponsorhip of Iberdrila and Quirónprevención. Azul Marino, Murimar Seguros, Nippon Express, Marinepool and Enovis are official providers. ADESP, World Sailing and the Port of Santander are institurional collaborators.
