Valencian sailors Irene de Tomás, in the women’s overall and under-21 categories, and Blanca Ferrando, in the under-19 category, are the new Spanish champions. The Balearic Islands were the top-performing autonomous community of the championship.

YOU HAVE ALL OF OUR FULL PROGRAMS HERE!The Spanish ILCA 6 Championship concluded this Sunday, April 26, in the city of Melilla after four intense days of competition, during which the Real Club Marítimo and the city’s Department of Sports successfully hosted this official event of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation.
Nikko Palou, from the Real Club Náutico de Palma, along with Irene de Tomás (RCN Valencia) and Blanca Ferrando (RCN Valencia), were the standout names of the championship, winning their respective categories and being crowned Spain’s new champions in the class in 2026.
Sunday’s racing was once again marked by a racecourse with one-meter waves and winds from 075º–085º at around ten knots of intensity.
Leading the gold fleet was Nikko Palou, who won two of the three races of the day and finished second in the other. With these results, the Balearic sailor secured the overall fleet lead and the titles in both the men’s overall and under-19 categories. David Sales (RCM Santander) won the second race of the day and secured the runner-up position, while Juan Benassar, also from RCNP, finished third. Both achieved these positions in the overall and under-19 standings.
In the women’s category, members of the RFEV 2032 team Irene de Tomás (RCN Valencia) and Maria Gornés, from RCNP, were crowned Spain’s overall champion and runner-up, respectively. Blanca Ferrando (RCN Valencia) finished third overall and first in the under-19 category.
The championship concluded with eleven of the twelve scheduled races completed, despite the demanding conditions on the racecourse.
The Balearic Islands were crowned Spanish champions among autonomous communities, following the outstanding performance of their team throughout the competition.
