From this Saturday, 17 January, until 24 January, international youth sailing has a key event in the Canary Islands with the staging of the ILCA Under-21 World Championship, which will take place in the waters off Playa Blanca, Lanzarote. The competition will bring together 240 sailors from around the world, 160 in the men’s category and 80 in the women’s, in one of the major events on the international ILCA class calendar.

YOU HAVE ALL OF OUR FULL PROGRAMS HERE!Among the 240 participants, it is worth highlighting the presence of seven sailors from the following yacht clubs in the Balearic Islands: Tim Lubat, Sergio García, Gabriela Morell and Marga Perelló from the Real Club Náutico de Palma; Daniel Giménez and Karol Krupski from the Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx; and Maria Gornés from Club Nàutic Ciutadella.
The championship is organised by the Castillo del Águila Yacht Club and is based at Marina Rubicón, located in the south of Lanzarote. This venue, internationally recognised for the quality of its facilities and its sailing conditions, offers direct access to the waters of Playa Blanca and Papagayo, an ideal setting for top-level competition.
The ILCA Under-21 World Championship will be sailed in a qualifying and final series format, with the possibility of splitting the fleet into groups due to the high number of participants. The racing programme includes two races per day, with a minimum of four races required for the championship to be considered valid.
The competition will officially begin on Sunday, 18 January, with a training race, while the scoring races will take place from 19 to 24 January. Friday will be the final day, with the last possible warning signal scheduled for 16:00. The prize-giving ceremony will bring an intense week of sailing to a close.
With extensive experience as a host of top-level championships, Marina Rubicón once again becomes the epicentre of world sailing, hosting an event that represents a major sporting challenge for the young Balearic sailors, who will be aiming to deliver strong performances against the international elite of the ILCA Under-21 class.
