The APB tenders the management of a nautical facility in Ibiza with sport at its core

The project prioritizes training schools, competition and athlete support programs, together with a planned €20 million investment to modernize infrastructure and services using sustainable criteria.

At its latest meeting, the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) approved the tender specifications and contract terms that will govern the public tender for the management and operation, under an administrative concession, of a nautical-sports facility in the port of Ibiza, with a total surface area of 33,352.60 m². The maximum duration of the concession will be 25 years.

The new management model places the promotion of sporting activity at the heart of the project, with particular focus on disciplines such as sailing and canoeing, reinforcing the role of the port as a space open to the public, grassroots sport and federated competition.

The tender specifications establish as an essential requirement the implementation and development of sailing and canoeing schools, as well as the creation of federated competition teams in both disciplines. Likewise, the future concessionaire will be required to organize sporting and recreational events, including official competitions, and to introduce an athlete support scheme together with the corresponding logistical assistance.

In addition, the project will promote educational activities of a sporting, social, cultural and environmental nature, consolidating the facility as a dynamic space and a point of integration between port and city.

The concessionaire will have to guarantee the provision of essential services such as berth management, catering, water and power supply, including electric charging points at at least 4% of berths, boat repair, parking and dry marina facilities.

The facility will be geared toward vessels based in the port of Ibiza, although up to 15% of the berths may be allocated to visiting boats. A public register of applications for permanent berths will also be created, ensuring transparency in the process.

The project includes an investment plan structured in two phases to ensure both the modernization of the facility and legal certainty throughout the process.

The first phase, with an estimated investment of €15 million and to be carried out within the first two years, will include the reorganization of the water area, the construction of a new breakwater and the refurbishment of the existing buildings.

The second phase, with an additional estimated investment of €5 million, will be conditional on approval of the Special Plan for the port of Ibiza and will allow for the expansion and development of the existing buildings.

Furthermore, the APB Board of Directors has approved the extension of the current authorization granted to the company Puertos y Litorales Sostenibles for the management of this same nautical facility.

This extension will remain in force until the best bid in the public tender is selected, and in any case no later than December 31, 2026. The aim is to guarantee continuity of service and the operational functioning of the facility during the award process.

With this initiative, the APB reinforces its commitment to a more sustainable, open and sport-oriented port model, consolidating the port of Ibiza as a benchmark for promoting nautical activity and the social and economic development of the surrounding area.
