The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) agreed at its last meeting, held on the afternoon of Monday, July 21, to award the most advantageous bid to Med Sea Yacht Services for the management of the boat haul-out and launch facility and supply station located at the Cós Nou dock in the port of Mahón.
The concession will last 19 years and includes a total investment of 9 million euros, aimed at a comprehensive reorganization of the boatyard. The goal is to modernize the existing infrastructure, expand operational capacity, and more effectively meet the technical needs of the nautical sector.
Among the most significant actions proposed are the expansion of the current travel-lift operation area, including the extension of existing breakwaters and the construction of two new ones, effectively doubling the space for hauling and launching boats of various lengths. The mooring systems will also be upgraded, and new floating docks will be installed.
Onshore, the project includes the construction of a fuel supply station with underground tanks capable of storing 150,000 liters of fuel, five fuel dispensers (two high-capacity), rapid charging outlets, a mobile unit, and a pit for sailboat repairs.
These developments aim to bring the boatyard in line with modern standards of quality and sustainability and reinforce Mahón port’s role as a key hub for boat maintenance and repair in the Balearic Islands.
From an economic perspective, the company will pay an annual occupancy fee of €177,000, in addition to €88,800 per year for improvement contributions, and 4% of its annual revenue.
Since 2022, the facility has been managed by Desarrollos Concesionales Insulares (DECOIN) under a temporary authorization, which expires in August 2025.
To ensure continuity of service while the long-term concession awarded to Med Sea Yacht Services is formally processed, the APB simultaneously launched a public tender for a new temporary authorization lasting one year, extendable up to three years.
This process was also won by Med Sea Yacht Services, which will take over provisional management of the facility until the 19-year concession officially comes into effect. The temporary authorization will be automatically terminated once the long-term concession is finalized.
