The Alcudiamar – Projecte Home Balears Trophy strengthens its charitable spirit in its sixth edition

The Bay of Alcudia once again brought together sport, the sea, and solidarity this weekend with the celebration of the 6th Alcudiamar – Projecte Home Balears Trophy, a regatta that has become one of the most special events on the Balearic nautical calendar.

Coinciding with World Boating Day, the event once again turned the Port of Alcudia into a meeting point open to the public, combining competition, family activities, and social commitment.

During their visit to the programme Passion for the Sea, Ignacio Ramos, Head of Communication and Marketing at Alcudiamar, and Antoni Parets, Communications Director at Projecte Home Balears, reviewed the evolution of an initiative that began six years ago with the aim of bringing nautical activities closer to society and giving visibility to the work of the social organisation.

“When things are repeated, that is when they really gain weight and people begin to see them as a traditional event,” explained Parets, highlighting that reaching this sixth edition “is a success we are very proud of.”

Alcudiamar acknowledged that the race has already become a regular event for many sailors from the north of the island and Menorca. The organisation also highlighted the progressive growth in participation since the first editions, going from barely half a dozen boats to bringing together twelve crews in this latest edition. “Many sailors come back every year and tell us that one of the things they enjoy most is the atmosphere that is created,” they noted.

One of the distinguishing features of the Alcudiamar – Projecte Home Balears Trophy is that the regatta goes beyond the purely sporting sphere to become a major social and family event.

Throughout the weekend, workshops and activities open to the public were organised around the sea, the environment, and sustainability. These included initiatives focused on sea turtle protection, sail recycling, nautical workshops, water-based activities, and one of the most eagerly awaited proposals: a batucada on board a tour boat following the regatta live across the Bay of Alcudia. “We want it to be an event open to the whole community, where people can come to the port and take part,” Alcudiamar explained.

Another major new feature of this edition was the design of the trophy, created this year by the company Sailing, which specialises in recycling sails and nautical materials.

“Starsky&Hutch”, a boat from Club Nàutic Can Picafort, was crowned overall champion of this sixth edition of the regatta and received the piece, made from wood and recycled sails, reflecting the seafaring and sustainable spirit of the competition. Joining them on the podium were “Lir”, from Club Nàutic Colònia de Sant Pere, and “Marball”, from Club Náutic Ciutadella.

In addition, the Alcudiamar – Projecte Home Balears Trophy has a curious particularity: the overall trophy only becomes the permanent property of a sailor once they achieve three consecutive victories or five alternating wins. Although several crews are close to achieving this feat, for now the trophy remains at Alcudiamar’s facilities.

The regatta is supported by numerous collaborating companies and sponsors who make the event possible year after year. “The spirit of the regatta is entirely charitable and fully in support of Projecte Home,” the organisation highlighted.

In addition to the sporting competition, the funds raised are used to support the different programmes and projects run by the social organisation in the Balearic Islands.

For Projecte Home Balears, this regatta is also an important opportunity to bring its work closer to society and break down the stigma associated with addiction. “Addictions can affect any person and any family,” they said during the interview, stressing the importance of giving visibility to the reality faced by many of the organisation’s users.

Projecte Home Balears currently supports thousands of people every day, including users and families, across its different centres throughout the Balearic Islands. “Addiction is something a person may experience, but it can also be overcome with treatment and support,” they emphasised.
