The AEMET activates the yellow alert due to high temperatures in Mallorca this weekend

The Meteorology States Agency (AEMET) has activated a yellow alert due to high temperatures in various areas of Mallorca during this weekend, from June 13th to 15th.

The alert begins on Friday, June 13th, affecting the south and interior areas of the island, where a maximum of 36 degrees centigrade is expected. On Saturday 14th, the warning amplifies to the north, northwest, south, interior and the Tramontana Mountains, with expected temperatures of 37 to 38 degrees. On Sunday 15th, the alert stays on the south, with a maximum of 37 degrees.

Due to the situation, the sanitary and civil protection authorities recommend taking measures to avoid heat strokes and other adverse effects:

• Avoiding exposure to the sun during the main hours of the day (between 12 a.m. and 5 p.m.)
   
• Staying in fresh areas, under the shadow or in spaces with ventilation or air conditioning.
   
• Hydrating frequently, even if you are not thirsty, drinking water of non alcoholic beverages nor caffeine.
   
• Using light clothes, with breathable fabric and light clothes, in addition to protecting yourself with hats, sunglasses and suncream.
   
• Avoiding heavy meals and alcoholic beverages.
   
• Never leaving kids, elderly or pets inside closed vehicles.

It is also recommended to be attentive to family, neighbors and vulnerable people who may also need help during these extreme heat days.

The AEMET will keep monitoring the evolution of this phenomenon and actualizing the warnings.
