The 74th Optimit's ABANCA Ciutat de Palma Trophy reaches the maximum capacity with 364 registries

The regatta organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma closes the inscriptions with 364 ships from 21 countries. Some foreign teams will arrive to Mallorca weeks before to start training. The regatta will take place from December 3rd to 7th.

The 74th Optimist's ABANCA Ciutat de Palma Trophy has set "sold out" poster afetr closing with 364 pre-registered boats, in representation of 21 countries, the reserve phase with no recharge. This date surpsasses the ceiling in four units that had been marked by the RCNP regarding the available space to give service to the fleet.

"We have completed the capacity, no more boats fit", has explained Pedro Marí, technical sailing director of the organizing entity. The ABANCA Ciutat de Palma Trophy is, in addition, the oldest competition of the Balearics, the main focus of the RCNP for base sailing. It is considered as one of the main regattas of the Optimist Class in Europe.

2025's edition is set as the most international one of the last decade, with the arrival of unique nation such as Puerto Rico, Perú, India or Uruguay, that are added to the Europen countries that traditionally come to the event to take advantage of the good conditions that are offered by the bay of Palma in winter.

In the starting line there will be some of the most prominent sailors of the Optimist class on a global scope, Spain's champion Pablo López, Europe's champion Lluc Bestard, the sixth qualified Daniel Capa, Brits Charlie Holland and Jonny Rogers (representatives of England in the 2025 Wolrd Champs), and Croatian Mihael Zobec, silver in the 2025 World Champs, amongst them. Inés Méndez, world's silver y and South American champion, alongisde the current defendant of the title, Jan Palou, top 20 of the world's ranking and world's champion by teams; New Zealander Stijn Oosterhaven (top 12 European), Annieska Madonnich (top 10 Euroepan) and young Spanish promise Miguel Echavarri will also participate.

The expectation that has awakened the ABANCA Ciutat de Palma trophy this year is perceived in the petition of some foreign teams to train at the Real Club Náutico de Palma with up to two margin weeks. "From day 20 of this month onwards we will start receiving people from countries such as Poland or Germany", has informed Pedro Marí. On a sidenote, the Gold Winds academy will organize a technification clinic from November 30th to December 2nd, boosted by Mallorcan sailor Albert Torres.

The event will start on December 3rd with the official regattas opening and the registry of participants. The qualifying series will take part on days 4 and 5, and the finals on days 6 and 7, with the fleet distributed into groups in terms of the results.

The Ciutat de Palma was born in 1950 as a Snipe regatta and, after adding different classes throughout its history, it transformed into five editions in an exclusive Optimist race. ABANCA is luanched this year as main sponsor in its line of offering support to the base sport.
