The 31st Setmana del Mar comes to an end after an edition shaped by storms and bad weather

Today, Friday, March 27th, the 31st edition of Setmana del Mar comes to an end with the participation of the Group B pupils from CEIP Cervantes, the tenth class to pass through the facilities of Club Nàutic Sant Antoni in 2026. It has undoubtedly been one of the most unusual editions, due to the constant impact of DANAs and bad weather, which during the first four weeks prevented the planned sailing program and excursions from taking place with any real sense of normality. CNSA instructors made up for it by preparing multiple workshops and alternative activities, but the reality is that the schoolchildren in the groups scheduled at the beginning of the program experienced a less maritime edition of Setmana del Mar than expected.

From the fifth week onwards, things returned to normal, but what happened has led the organizers in the Sports Department to consider making changes and postponing the program for the next edition. Getting the weather right is no easy task, due to the unpredictability brought by climate change and the absence of the calm January conditions that used to be a regular feature. That weather stability used to be taken full advantage of, and there were even days that invited swimming, but everything is changing and Setmana del Mar must adapt.

“Despite these difficult conditions, the positive results of the surveys completed by the participating schoolchildren at the end of the activity have left the team of instructors with a very good feeling. For this reason, the entire organization would like to thank them for their understanding and for the good communication maintained at all times with the schools in order to carry out the activities and make up for lost days,” explained Enrique Mas, director of the Sports Department.

From April 15th, the activity ‘Un Dia a Formentera’ will begin, replacing the former ‘Un dia a la mar’. Thanks to this initiative, the schools that applied during the access phase but were not selected for Setmana del Mar will have the chance to enjoy a special day on the smaller Pityusic island. On that day, they will take part in a guided visit led by an environmental educator to the areas near La Savina, as a reward for their effort and dedication.

It is worth remembering that since Setmana del Mar was launched in 1996, a total of 15,000 students have taken part. This year there were 238 fifth-grade pupils from schools across the island, to which will be added those who will travel to Formentera next month.

One of the most important aspects in organizing this year’s Setmana del Mar has been securing the funding needed to carry out the activity, while also adding two new sponsors: Vibra Hotels and Galp. Both have joined CaixaBank, Eroski, and Baleària, together with institutional support from the Ministry of Sports and Youth of the Consell Insular d’Eivissa, the Sant Antoni Town Hall, and the Ministry of Education of the Balearic Government.
