The 2nd phase of the Pact for Sustainability treats the Balearic coast’s management and protection

The councillor Cabrer has presided over the encounter alongside the Sea and Water Cycle Counselling to analyze the coincidence of objectives with the future Coasts Law.

The Social and Political Pact for Economic, Social and Environmental Sustainability of the Balearic Islands enters this week in a new phase of development and implementation, after having incorporated the additions of the work subgroups and the civilian participation platform.

The objective of the Pact is consolidating and developing the economic and social model towards a major sustainability, with the objective of improving the quality of life of all the residents and guaranteeing a balanced and inclusive development.

The Pact is currently in its second phase, with the development of three debate tables throughout this week.  In total, 48 proposals will be discussed over the 554 presented ones during the first phase. The first table, celebrated today, has focused on the Coasts Law; tomorrow, Wednesday 22nd, the Agriculture Law will be discussed; and Thursday 23rd will be dedicated to the ITS funds, oriented to improvements in the labour market.

The first reunion of this new phase has been celebrated today, October 21st, in the Work, Public Function and Social Dialogue, presided by the councillor Catalina Cabrer, accompanied by the general director of Social Dialogue and Economic Transition, José Antonio Caldés. The councilor of the Sea and Water Cycle, Juan Manuel Lafuente, and the general director  of Coasts, María Joaquina Ferrer, alongside the technical teams of both councillors, as well as representatives of insular councillors, of the town halls, of the patronal, of the syndicates and associations and entities linked to the coast and sea, that develop their activity or keep a direct relationship with these fields, have participated in the encounter.

This session has been useful to analyze the convergencies between the Sustainability Pact and the future Law of ordination, protection and integral management of the coast, two initiatives that share objectives in matters of preservation of natural resources, responsible management of the territory and promotion of a green economy and a quality job.

The participants have matched by pointing out the coast’s protection is a fundamental edge of economic and social sustainability of the Balearic Islands, and that cooperation between administrations is essential to achieve efficient and balanced management of coastal spaces.

Councillor Cabrer has highlighted that the Pact for Sustainability acts as a shared route paper to guarantee the coherence of public politics and reinforcing social participation.
