Club Marítimo de Mahón (CMM) has published the Notice of Race and opened registration, and in just 10 days the classic yacht event has already drawn a fleet of 17 boats representing 11 countries.
The competition, which will take place in Menorca from August 26th to 30th, will feature four classes: Vintage, Classics, Spirit of Tradition, and Big Boats. The latter will be reserved for yachts over 23 metres in length, and three entries, Hallowe’en, Viveka and Cariad, have so far confirmed their participation.
In addition to these three large yachts, other boats such as Baruna, Kahurangi, Esperanza, Clarionet and Legolas, all regular competitors on the Mediterranean classic yacht circuit, have also confirmed that they will be at Club Marítimo de Mahón next summer.
Racing will begin on Wednesday, August 26th, and conclude on Saturday, August 29th. CMM expects participation figures similar to those of last year’s edition, which brought together 49 historic and classic yachts from 11 countries.
Once again, the Copa del Rey Repsol de Barcos de Época will form part of The Mediterranean Champions Cup circuit, alongside Les Régates Royales, Vele d’Epoca di Imperia, Argentario Sailing Week, Les Voiles d’Antibes and the Illes Balears Clàssics, organized by Club de Mar Mallorca. The competition will also count toward the Trofeo Clásicos Mare Nostrum – Spanish Classic Sailing Cup.
A total of five races are scheduled, all of them coastal courses in Mahón Harbour, its surrounding area and Menorcan waters, with no more than two races sailed per day. The regatta is organized by Club Marítimo de Mahón on behalf of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, with the collaboration of the Royal National Cruising Association and the Balearic Sailing Federation, and with REPSOL as the main sponsor. The event is also supported by the Menorca Island Council, Maó Town Council, the Menorca Tourism Promotion Foundation, and the Balearic Port Authority.
