Beltrán López, a sailor from Club Nàutic s'Arenal, was the winner in the Optimist class, a category that featured over 100 participants.
Traditional sailing was once again the first to set out, with a coastal race through the bay. Part of the fleet completed a 4.7-nautical-mile course, while the rest sailed a shorter one, just two miles long.
Most of the frontrunners reaffirmed their dominance in their respective categories. That was the case for “San Antonio de Padua,” skippered by Joan Ecker, who once again claimed victory in the Llaüts Clàssics class, securing the title. “Boeres,” helmed by Bartomeu Rosselló, also maintained its lead in the Llaüts Clàssics Oberta class after winning yesterday’s race. In Vela Latina Clásica, “Assam,” skippered by Pere Riera, won both races held during this Setmana de la Vela – Trofeu DURAN, taking the victory in its category.
There were changes in the Regata class: “Ventolina,” skippered by Jaume Duran, snatched the win from “Tinita,” helmed by Pere Reus. In the Oberta category, the winner of yesterday’s race was “Alconassar,” skippered by Juan José Font.
Optimist sailors completed two more races, for a total of five in the overall standings. Beltrán López secured overall victory thanks to a win in the final race of the day. The young sailor from CNA was also the best in the Under-13 category. Adrián Rodríguez, from Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, finished in second place, and Tomás Salva climbed to the third place on the podium.
Laia Fullana, from Real Club Náutico de Palma, took victory in the introductory Optimist D category, edging out her peer Álvaro Sanz. The third place went to Joan Mercadal from Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita.
Excitement continues into next weekend, when the ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 classes will take over from the Optimist and lateen sail boats for the second half of this 16th edition of the Setmana de Vela – Trofeu DURAN, organized by Club Nàutic Cala Gamba. The event will count as a Federation Cup for the ILCA 6 class, and top sailors from across the Balearic Islands are expected to participate.
