Once again, social integration, sport, and sustainability come together at Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx with the celebration of the inclusive sailing regatta 'Alex Rumbo a Ti'.
STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERMore than a hundred children, adults, and volunteers from all over Mallorca took part this Saturday, July 4th, in the seventeenth edition of this regatta, organized by Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx together with Mi Fundación Alex and with the collaboration of Fundación Ecomar.
The event took place both at the club’s facilities and in open waters, with a full program of activities that included sailing aboard “Galeones” and “Hansa 303” boats, as well as a marine cleanup at Cala Egos and along the club’s breakwater.
This sporting event highlights the importance of the sea in the development of people with physical and psychophysical disabilities, serving as a genuine tool for inclusion, especially in socialization processes.
Theresa Zabell, two-time Olympic champion and president of Fundación Ecomar, led the cleanup activity, which also included children from the Sea and Sailing School. The initiative combined environmental education, sailing, and direct action, strengthening the link between sport and sustainability.
The young participants collected waste, learned about the impact of plastics on the marine ecosystem, and shared a transformative experience in close contact with the sea. For Zabell—an icon of both sports and environmental awareness—educating children to respect their surroundings from an early age is a priority. “The sea is our playing field, and taking care of it is part of the game,” she stated with conviction.
