Europe Class World Championship

Spain wins the Nations Cup at the Europe Class World Championship

8th July 2026 by Agencies

Spain has made a strong start to the main week of the 2026 Europe Class World Championship, being held in Gdansk, Poland, after being crowned champion of the Nations Cup, the team regatta that served as the official curtain-raiser to the world championship event.

The Spanish triumph had a strong Balearic flavour thanks to the presence of Ana Musatova, a sailor from Club de Vela Puerto Andratx, who was part of the national team alongside Sara Ayats, Alberto Antón and Jordi Camos. The four delivered a brilliant performance in a particularly demanding format, featuring mixed teams of four sailors per country, elimination round robins, semifinals and an exciting final against Denmark.

Spain defeated the Danish team in the grand final, showing tactical strength, coordination and an excellent reading of the racecourse. The victory is especially valuable as it came in Górki Zachodnie, one of Poland’s most prominent sailing areas and considered one of the best racecourses in the country, with open waters, steady winds and a strong maritime tradition.

For Club de Vela Puerto Andratx, the result represents another source of international pride. Ana Musatova, Spanish champion, European runner-up and fourth-place finisher at last year’s World Championship in Tórbole, Italy, once again places herself among the leading figures in the Europe Class, a technical and demanding boat that was an Olympic class from Barcelona 1992 to Athens 2004.

Victory in the Nations Cup not only opens the World Championship with great news for Spanish sailing, but also reinforces the excellent sporting form of Musatova and Club de Vela Puerto Andratx on the international stage.

The 2026 Europe Class World Championship takes place from July 7th to the 12th in the waters of Gdansk and brings together 80 athletes from thirteen nationalities, who will compete for the men’s and women’s intercontinental titles. The forecast of strong northwesterly winds and significant swell promises intense days and top-level racing in the Baltic.
