‘Solgreen’ holds the lead in the Iberdrola League ahead of the final day

This fifth and final event will decide the podium of the Spanish Women’s Sailing Championship, currently led by Solgreen from RCN Valencia and Club Nàutic s’Arenal.

Up to 15 teams and 75 women will take part this weekend in the Iberdrola League final, co-organized by the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Real Club Náutico Calpe as host club. These numbers represent a record participation in the five editions of this national circuit and confirm its establishment as a platform to promote women’s sailing and support the development of female sailors.

This fifth and final event of the 2025 Iberdrola League will determine the podium of the Spanish Women’s Sailing Championship. Before the Calpe races, Solgreen, skippered by Elena de Tomás and composed of sailors from RCN Valencia and Club Nàutic s’Arenal, leads the standings. The Team RCNGC from RCN Gran Canaria, led by Inés Martín, and Surne from RCMA-RSC, helmed by Joana Abasolo, occupy second and third place, respectively. However, nothing is decided yet, as the crews from Pollença, RCNGC-7UP, and Vilanova are close contenders for the bronze.

Fifteen teams from seven autonomous communities are registered: Comunidad Valenciana (five teams), Canarias (three), Balearic Islands (two), Catalunya (two), and Murcia, Galicia, and País Vasco (one crew each).

Ana Caso, from the local team Ganbatte (RCN Calpe), expressed her enthusiasm: “For many of us, the Iberdrola League has been a way to feel the excitement of sailing again and share it with great athletes. Being hosts fills us with joy. Competing at home is always special, and it’s an honor to welcome so many top-level sailors and share our club, our sea, and our hospitality. We want this final to be a true celebration of women’s sailing.”

Magdalena Martínez Ferrer, Director of Real Club Náutico Calpe, highlighted that “this fifth edition has reached a record number of registered teams, which shows that the Iberdrola League continues to grow in interest, participation, and competitiveness.”

“RCN Calpe has been part of the organizing clubs since the first edition,” added the club spokesperson. “It is an event that attracts visitors to Calpe and positions us as a nautical destination. It also reflects our commitment to equality and promoting women’s participation in this sport.”

The Calpe final promises to be intense and exciting. In addition to the extremely competitive fleet, which has grown stronger year after year, challenging weather conditions are expected. The orange alert issued by Aemet for heavy rains in the Marina Alta region has forced the cancellation of today’s (Thursday, October 9) training sessions and Friday’s preliminary races. As a result, the regattas will be concentrated over the weekend, with strong winds forecasted.

Racing will be held aboard six Tom 28 one-design boats provided by Real Club Náutico de Calpe, with an initial round-robin format for the 15 teams. On Sunday at noon, the Medal Races will take place with the six top crews, to determine both the winners of the final event and the 2025 Iberdrola League champions, who will also be crowned new Spanish champions.

The fifth edition of the Iberdrola League consists of five stages: previous events in Getxo (March), Altea (April), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (May), and Palma (September), plus this weekend’s final in Calpe.

The Iberdrola League in Calpe is jointly organized by the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Real Club Náutico de Calpe, with sponsorship from Iberdrola and the Universo Mujer program of the Spanish National Sports Council (CSD).
