2nd May 2026 by Agencies

The Ajuntament d’Andratx has launched its lifeguard and rescue service on the beaches of Sant Elm and Camp de Mar, which from today will each have two lifeguards on duty. The service will remain operational until the end of October, coinciding with the tourist season.

Ahead of the busiest months, the service will be reinforced from June with three lifeguards per beach, adapting staffing levels to summer demand.

The Councillor for Environment and Civil Protection of Andratx, Antoni Nicolau, supervised the start of the service this morning, checking the readiness of the operation on site.

During the winter, the council has carried out several improvements to monitoring and assistance infrastructure. Specifically, new lifeguard towers have been installed on Camp de Mar beach and on the small beach of Sant Elm. In addition, the latter beach now has a new first-aid module directly on the seafront, allowing faster and more effective care in the event of any incident.

The service will be completed in the coming weeks with the addition of a rescue jet ski, as well as new support equipment for people with reduced mobility, with the aim of ensuring accessibility and enjoyment of the coastline for all users.

Nicolau highlighted that “the activation of this service represents an important step in strengthening safety on our beaches, incorporating new resources and adapting the operation to the real needs of the municipality,” adding that “we continue working to offer a safer, more accessible and better-prepared coastline for residents and visitors throughout the season.”

For her part, the Mayor of Andratx, Estefanía Gonzalvo, stated that “this operation reinforces the Town Council’s commitment to coastal safety and the continuous improvement of public services,” adding that “we continue working to ensure that our beaches are safe, accessible and high-quality spaces for everyone.”
