The International Ocean Film Tour is considered the most important ocean film festival in Europe, touring a total of 16 countries with over 300 events, 20 of them in Spain. The festival presents a collection of documentaries totaling around 150 minutes, all related to the marine environment. Headlining the program is the Canary Islands short film “Nika, the Tropical Pilot Whale”, directed by José Hernández and co-directed and starring Felipe Ravina. It tells the unusual story between this biologist and communicator from Tenerife and Nika, a tropical pilot whale living in the local community of the islands. Through this story, the production highlights the most serious environmental problems facing an archipelago threatened by over-tourism, pollution, and resource exploitation.

Audiences will also be able to enjoy four additional short films. These include Trilogy New Wave, a U.S. production featuring three of the world’s top surfers (Ethan Ewing, Griffin Colapinto, and Seth Moniz); Row of Life, following former Paralympic athlete Angela Madsen on the greatest adventure of her life; Kelp!, a British short about the potential of kelp, a seaweed that could revolutionize agriculture, fisheries, and biofuels; and 7 Beats per Minute, a Canadian film following elite freediver Jessea Lu, showing how the depths of the ocean can lead to extraordinary personal achievements at the limits of the human body.

The International Ocean Film Tour celebrates eleven years committed to protecting the oceans, which are both habitat and lifeline, and are at risk of extinction. The festival, originally from Germany, collaborates with Salvem sa Badia, along with other entities such as the Lanzarote Island Council, Surfrider Foundation, Top Time Eventos, Buceo ConCiencia, European Environment Foundation, Buceo Norte Gran Canaria, and Sea Shepherd Global, among others.
