The manager of Ports de les Illes Balears (PortsIB), the public entity under the Ministry of the Sea and the Water Cycle of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Kico Villalonga, visited the Port of Pollença this morning, Friday March 6th, to supervise the progress of the improvement works being carried out at the port facilities. He was accompanied by the first deputy mayor of the Pollença Town Council, Joana Aina Campomar, and the second deputy mayor, Maria José Jiménez Escribano.

During the visit, Villalonga reviewed the progress of the construction of the second pontoon, an action included within a broader project that also involves structural repairs to the piers, the replacement of pontoon slabs and various reinforcement works throughout the port facilities.

The project aims to improve the structural safety and operational efficiency of the port infrastructure, while ensuring its adaptation to current needs and the effects of climate change. Specifically, the works include the replacement of the slabs on the six pontoons in the port (A, B, C, D, E and F), which currently show deterioration such as cracks, fissures and reinforcement corrosion. The project also includes underpinning of piles and piers to correct structural settlements detected in several areas of the facility.

In addition, certain sections of the quay will be raised to improve the port’s operational capacity and adapt the infrastructure to projected sea-level rise, in line with the Ports General Plan.

The total budget for the works amounts to €2,070,639 (VAT included) and forms part of the Balearic Government’s commitment to modernizing ports under regional management and improving the services offered to users of the Port of Pollença.

With these actions, PortsIB continues advancing the maintenance and improvement of port infrastructure across the Balearic Islands, with the goal of ensuring safer, more efficient facilities prepared for future challenges.
