The event, sponsored by the Menorca Tourism Promotion Foundation, the Menorca Island Council, the Mahón City Council, and the Balearic Port Authority, is one of the most attractive offshore races in Spain.
In 2024, 50 boats took part in the race. Registrations are currently open and progressing very positively, so the number of participants is expected to surpass last year’s. The ‘KAJSA III’ was the winner of the previous edition, covering the 140 nautical miles—approximately 250 kilometers—in 19:46:11. It was the second fastest after the ‘KILOTON,’ which finished in 19:32:42 but was placed second due to time compensations.
The race has regained interest after the last few editions and is eagerly anticipated by participants, especially from the mainland. Additionally, this regatta counts towards the Spanish Offshore Championship and the Catalonia Offshore Championship for Solo and Double-handed sailors, providing extra motivation for competitors.
The Menorca – Sant Joan features the Alfonso XIII Trophy, one of the oldest trophies in the national calendar, established by King Alfonso XIII in 1912—the grandfather of King Juan Carlos I and great-grandfather of the current King Felipe VI. Since 1996, the event has been organized by the Mahón Maritime Club and the Royal Nautical Club of Barcelona. The trophy is a replica awarded to the winners and bears the hallmark of the prestigious Puig jewelry house in Barcelona.
