Red tuna fishing remains forbidden for recreational fishmongers in just three days of ban

From the midnight of Wednesday, June 18th, night on, red tuna recreational fishing is prohibited, in only three days after its official aperture, which took place last Monday, June 16th.

The Fishing and Aquiculture Ordination General Direction has declared a resolution in which it is temporarily forbidden to fishing, possession aboard or landing of red tuna exemplars in the sporting and recreational modality. 

According to the date of the Fishing’s General Secretary, the quota of 39.940 kg attributed to sporting and recreational fishing of the 6th and 7th lists of the Ships Registry, it is found close to its depletion, so it proceeds to carrying out a control technical stop, until the real situation of the capture data are known. 

It is important to note that the Royal Decree 46/2019, of February 8th, regulate red tuna fishing in the Oriental Atlantic and the Mediterranean, and the Resolution of April 22nd, of the Fishing General Secretary, establishes the dispositions of application of the pluriannual ordination plan of red tuna in the oriental Atlantic ocean and the Mediterranean sea for 2025, which saves a quota of 39.940 kg of red tuna for sporting and recreational fishing for the 2025 season.

Last year, 2024, this situation also happened the exact same way, and on June 19th, 2024, the Fishing General Secretary communicated to the fishmongers that the definitive closure of sporting and recreational fishing  of red tuna, after confirming that the totality of the existing fishing possibilities for that year had been consumed, 37.832,25 kilos, in just three days.
