Nearly a hundred people came together at the RCNPP’s Varadero building to congratulate her.
Maria Àngels Moreno, an athlete from RCNPP, was one of the standout performers at the championships in Racice, Czech Republic. She returned home with gold medals in the C2 200, C2 500, and Mixed C4 500 events, plus a new European record in the C2 200.
Clearly moved, Moreno said this welcome meant a great deal to her: “Between exams and training these past few days, I haven’t really had time to celebrate.”
Attendees greeted her with applause and banners, and a particularly touching moment came when a group of young paddlers from the club spelled out her name using letters on their shirts.
RCNPP President Joaquín Cotoner praised her achievements and thanked her for raising the club’s profile. Also present was Joan Toni Moreno, Maria’s brother, who proudly commented: “She’s been training so hard, I knew she had improved, but I didn’t expect such a big leap.”
Maria’s next big goal is the World Championships in Milan at the end of August, where she will focus on the Olympic C2 500 distance alongside her partner Viktoria Yarchvska.
As for her potential Olympic participation in Los Angeles 2028, Maria shared: “That’s the long-term goal, well, more than a goal, it’s a dream. So we’ll keep working hard to make it happen.”
