This contribution is made in accordance with the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) issued during the project’s approval process, which establishes that PortsIB must make an annual contribution to the Posidonia Fund to support actions aimed at the conservation and protection of Posidonia oceanica in the Balearic Islands, in application of Decree 25/2018 of July 27th, on the conservation of this marine species.
The comprehensive renovation project for the port of Fornells – phase 2 was approved on January 28th, 2021. During its environmental review, the Environmental Commission of the Balearic Islands issued a favorable statement after determining that the project would not produce significant adverse effects on the environment, provided that the established conditions and corrective measures were met.
Likewise, the Board of Directors of PortsIB authorized the occupation and operation of pontoon L in the port of Fornells, intended for the management of 60 moorings.
The contribution to the Posidonia Fund is part of the measures designed to guarantee the protection of the marine environment and offset possible impacts arising from port activity, contributing to the preservation of one of the most valuable ecosystems in the Mediterranean.
