PortsIB reinforces Cala Figuera’s portuary security with a new anchoring chain system

The initiative, will be finished in a period of approximately two weeks, has a specific budget line of 93.476,69 euros, including the maintenance contract of the portuary facilities.

Last week the works to install an anchoring chain system at Cala Figuera began, an initiative encouraged by  Ports de les Illes Balears (PortsIB) with the aim of increasing the zone’s moored boats security. Until now, every boat had its own individual mooring system, but with the new intervention a unified system is installed and reinforced, which will allow a better management of the space and a better resistance to phenomenons such as “rissagues” (extraordinary oscillations in the sea level).

This new system includes a double guide, designed specifically to confront extreme sea level oscillations that take place occasionally at the port with more warranties. The tasks consist of the placement of the dead that conforms to the anchoring chain system base and the installation of the mother chain that unites them. Currently, the technician teams are proceeding to the fixation of the strings that will allow the safe mooring of the ships.

This initiative forms part of the maintenance contract of the ports managed directly by PortsIB, which include a specific budget line destined to this project in Cala Figuera. The assigned budget for this intervention sums up to 93.476,69 euros, and it covers the technician planification as well as the execution of hired companies’ workers.

The works are expected to finish in an estimated period of two weeks, if climate conditions allow so. With this project, PortsIB takes one more step in its bid for keeping and increasing security, functionality and sustainability of all the Balearic coast’s portuary facilities.
