By island, Mallorca recorded the highest amount of waste collected, with 3,847.10 kg, followed by Eivissa with 2,106.30 kg, Menorca with 977.08 kg, and Formentera with 863.60 kg. The beach-cleaning boats, designed to operate in shallow areas, and the coastal boats, capable of operating up to five nautical miles offshore, worked daily throughout the month on all islands.
Regarding the types of materials collected, plastic accounted for 53.58% of the total, followed by wood (30.22%) and vegetation (6.78%). Organic waste, oil, and other miscellaneous materials were also removed.
In addition to regular clean-up tasks, special operations were carried out to remove bulky waste or respond to incidents. In Mallorca, two adrift boats, an outboard motor, and a sick person were recovered or assisted. In Menorca, plastic, wooden poles, and an injured turtle were removed. In Eivissa, plastic fragments and a drifting buoy were collected. In Formentera, a wooden pallet and a small drifting boat were retrieved.
During the month, four alerts were handled — three in coordination with Maritime Rescue and the 112 emergency service, and one at the request of institutions or private individuals.
The coastal cleaning campaign will continue until September 30.
