Over 200 schoolchildren discover the sea at Club Nàutic Sant Antoni during the Setmana Blava

Throughout the Setmana Blava, which began last Monday and ends this Friday, May 9, a total of 207 students from 5th and 6th grade classes at Sant Rafel, Can Raspalls, Balanzat, and Buscastell schools have visited the facilities of Club Nàutic Sant Antoni.

The half-day visit allowed the students to receive basic lessons in navigation and learn about the biodiversity of the Bay of Portmany. Each day’s activities began at 9:30 a.m. with an environmental workshop on Posidonia and other characteristic species of the area, followed by a kayaking session and then a workshop on sailing and nautical knots. Afterwards, the students went out to sea in sailboats (type gamba) and kayaks, where they were able to try and practice both disciplines. They returned to their schools around 1:00 p.m. The students were accompanied at all times by the technical team of CNSA.

Setmana Blava is an initiative funded by the Balearic Government through the Ministry of the Sea and Water Cycle, from which schools across the archipelago have benefited. For the CNSA technicians and educators, this project represents progress, as it reflects the Balearic administration’s commitment to introducing young people to the sea through activities such as sailing and kayaking, which are 100% sustainable, while also learning to develop proper environmental behavior. The program at CNSA has been a success, with all available spots filled.
